Our Purpose and Our Promise

At MONO International School, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and discover their potential, regardless of where they live. We provide a supportive learning environment that combines strong educational foundations with English, life skills, creativity, and opportunities to explore the wider world.

Our promise is to help children in remote communities build confidence, knowledge, and character while staying connected to their families, culture, community, and natural environment. We are committed to creating meaningful opportunities today that help shape brighter possibilities for tomorrow.

From Our Beginnings to Our Growing Community

MONO International School began in 2017 in response to a simple need: many children in our community were struggling in school and needed additional support. We started with after-school and part-time classes in English and mathematics, supporting children and older students who had limited opportunities to strengthen their learning.

As we worked with more families, we saw the importance of building a strong foundation from the earliest years. This led us to establish our officially registered kindergarten, while continuing to support older students through our after-school and evening programs.

From these beginnings, MONO has grown into a wider learning community with morning kindergarten, afternoon learning, and evening classes. Looking ahead, we hope to continue expanding our educational pathway through primary education and into the future.

Our journey continues with the same purpose: creating stronger opportunities for children and future generations in our community.

The Heart of Our School

At the heart of MONO are the people who make learning possible. Our teachers, staff, and leaders work closely together to support every child with care, patience, and purpose. Together, they bring knowledge, experience, and a strong commitment to helping children learn, grow in confidence, and discover their potential.

Mrs. Mak Sreymao

Founder & Director

Mak Sreymao is the Founder and Director of MONO International School, a private, officially registered kindergarten in Thma Bang District, Koh Kong Province, Cambodia. With over 20 years of experience in education, she has dedicated her career to teaching, educational development, and supporting the growth of learners and educators.

Her connection with the local community began through her work in Koh Kong, where she was involved in education programs, education management, and staff capacity building. Through these experiences, she came to understand the challenges faced by children in remote communities and the importance of creating meaningful opportunities for their education and future.

In late 2017, she founded MONO with a simple belief: children in remote communities deserve access to quality education, encouragement, and opportunities to discover their potential.

Leading, Training & Developing People

As Director, Mak remains closely involved in teaching, school management, educational program development, and staff training. She provides ongoing guidance and professional development in teaching practice, classroom management, curriculum implementation, lesson planning, and school responsibilities.

A key part of her leadership is developing people within the MONO community. Some current staff were once MONO students who later returned after completing high school or university, while others developed through MONO's trainee and internship pathways. Through practical experience and continued guidance, they have grown into teachers and responsible members of the school team.

She also oversees MONO's educational programs, academic planning, school operations, learning resources, and staff responsibilities, helping maintain consistent standards across the school's programs.

A Continuing Commitment

Today, Mak continues to work closely with students, teachers, families, and the local community. Her purpose remains to create meaningful educational opportunities for children in remote communities and help young people grow as students, educators, professionals, and future community builders.
